The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition has been gathering English language entries of aspiring young writers' thoughts on key issues of the day since 1883. With children across the Commonwealth out of school, we are delighted to share a message from our Vice-Patron HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, inspiring children and young people to enter The Queens Commonwealth Essay Competition 2020.
That was six years ago, when The Bodley Head, an imprint of Random House, and the Financial Times launched the first edition of our prize for the brightest and best new voices in long-form essay.
The 2017 competition was judged by employment and discrimination law barrister Aysha Ahmad and professor of Labour Law at Oxford and fellow of Hertford College, Alan Bogg. The event, which took place at Wadham, was organised by Wadham Law students. A compendium of essays resulting from the event will be available soon.
One of the ECSL's core objectives is to promote knowledge of and interest in the law relating to space activities through the encouragement of research activities. In 2014 it was decided to inaugurate a Student Essay Competition. The competition challenges students to think critically about a particular topic in space law and policy and to present cogent arguments in support of a position.2017.
